Book Blogger Hop 08.17.2012 - 08.23.2012

Yep, it's Book Blogger Hop time again!

Book Blogger Hop
This week's question is....

What is the one genre you will NEVER read?

I don't know if I can say that there is a genre that I will never read...I mean, NEVER is a pretty strong word.  But there are two series I can safely say I will never read:

  • The Twilight series
  • The 50 Shades of Gray series
I will be honest...I read a page of one of the Twilight books and that was enough.  Plus, I really don't like Vampires (or zombies...or the undead in general).  I like them even less when they are in high school.  Just sayin'.

I haven't read a single page of a 50 Shades book--but I know that the subject matter is just really, really, really not my thing.  Also, I am really suspect of any series of books--like Twilight or 50 Shades of Gray that start to get an almost rabid following.  I know I shouldn't be too hard about this--I mean, I caved on The Hunger Games books and ended up liking them, but I can safely say that I will pass up the two series listed above.

Go ahead and hate me now.

  1. I don't hate you at all...I totally agree with you. :)

  2. Yes, I too can't say I'll stay away from certain genres but I can say I could stay away from certain books. Like you, I don't think I'll try 50 Shades.

    Here's my reply.

  3. No hate from this girl, I agree with you. I did read the Twilight series and that was more than enough paranormal/vampire business for me. 50 Shades doesn't interest me in the least. To be frank I think it's a bit sad that it's getting so much hype. There are so many more deserving works out there.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!

  4. I don't mind the TWILIGHT books. I'm not manic over them, but I'm no hater either. 50 SHADES, though? Nope, I'll never read them or any erotica for that matter. Like you said, that genre just does not interest me in the least.

    Happy Hopping!

  5. I have the same list, add Harry Potter to it though...I just can't fathom reading any of them. I may read Hunger Games some day, but even that might not happen.

    1. I should be honest...Harry Potter is also another reason why I tend to shy away from series. I enjoyed the first and third Harry Potter books, but then I felt obligated to read the rest of them, even though I really didn't enjoy them.

As for the Hunger Games--I enjoyed them, but you have to read them as a series to really enjoy them. And, really, there are parts in them that are just hard to read (mostly because they are just too violent for my taste. So, unless you want to commit to the series, I wouldn't recommend them.

Wow...I just blasted Harry Potter AND The Hunger Games. I may be banned from book blogging from now on! ;-D

  6. ha ha! I love all of those, except 50 Shades. I don't mind if you don't want to read them. I just can't stand it when people judge books and have opinions about them without ever having read them. I had a friend in college who blasted the HP book series, never having read them. I was like, um, you don't know what you're talking about.

  7. I'm with you on the 50 Shades books. I did read the entire Twilight series, but haven't seen the movies -- I just didn't like the books that much. I read for entertainment, so if a book is entertaining without being off-putting, then that's good enough for me. I'm not particularly striving for literature or enlightenment.

  8. Personally for me it is Poetry...I don't like it and most of the time it just annoys me. And menage, I only need one other naked person in the room.
