I meant to post something this weekend, but it didn’t happen. In fact, very little happened this weekend. On Saturday night—or, more accurately, Sunday morning—my son woke up vomiting. So, Sunday was spent at home with the little guy.
I was also dealing with computer issues for most of the weekend. I had finally set up my craft/computer room and wanted to hook my laptop up to my printer…except it wouldn’t work. My husband, who is a computer guy, spent most of Saturday working on it. On Sunday, after the Seahawks game, my husband went out to buy a new printer…which also didn’t work.
After much swearing on both our parts, my husband figured out that the problem was really with my computer. More specifically, it was a problem with my profile on the computer. As long as I’m logged in as my husband, it works.
I’m not sure what is up with that, but whatever. My husband also set up the printer with a wireless connection, so I can printer from anywhere in the house. I’m sitting at the kitchen table right now and I have an overwhelming urge to print something. Not that I actually have anything I need to print….
Anyway, I realize that this blog has been quiet so far this year. I am actually on books #4 and 5 of this year, which begs the question…what about the first 3 books I’ve read?
Well, first was The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which is this month’s selection for my book club. As usual, I won’t be reviewing this on my blog until after my book club meets, which will be this Wednesday. I’ll try to have a review up on Thursday or Friday.
After Henrietta Lacks, I needed some light reading. I had recently won a giveaway on Peppermint Ph.D’s blog and had two lighter books just waiting for me!
The first book was Sad Desk Salad, which I will not be reviewing on this blog. It’s not that I didn’t like it, it just wasn’t the sort of book that I normally read (chick lit). It was, however, a good book to read when you needed something light and non-thought provoking.
The second book was Lola’s Secret, which I will try to review soon. It is a little meatier than Sad Desk Salad, but still light enough to give my brain a rest.
As I said, I’m the 4th and 5th books of the year right now. The first is a Christian parenting book titled Give Them Grace. I will review this when I’m done, as I know I’ll have a lot to say about it. The second is Jenny Lawson’s Let’s Pretend this Never Happened, which is the February selection for my book club. Honestly, I’m not sure if I will be reviewing that one. It reads more like a collection of blog posts than an actual book and I’m not sure what to do with that.
In other news, my latest piece at the Hillsboro Argus is up. There is a special irony to this because, after I wrote it, my son got sick. Go figure.
Secondly, I now have yet another blog. At least this one is a collaborative blog, so it isn’t all up to me. Of course, right now it is only my friend and I. The blog is about crafting with kids, but it will most likely also feature things such as kid-friendly activities and recipes. If you’d like to join us, just let me know.
And, finally, the sad truth…..
