I snapped these pictures in June, but I only recently found them on my memory card. However, this plant hasn't changed much in the past month....thankfully!
This is a hydrangea, right? Whatever it is, it is my favorite flowering plant in our yard. My husband always offers to do something to the soil to change the color of the flowers, but I quite like them just the way they are!
They certainly are hydrangeas, always beautiful whatever the colour.
ReplyDeleteI do love hydrangeas....and these are very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHydrangeas are one of my favourites too. We inherited a tough little plant when we moved into a current house. It flowers for months with huge plate sized flower heads. The colour is determined by the pH levels in your soil but I can never remember which way is which...but I think if you add lime, your flowers will become pinker.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize the soil changed their color. I think the color they are is quite lovely, too.
ReplyDeleteLovely hydrangeas. Mine are not out yet, and the they are the most glorious blue, but the cutting my mother took at old house was pink. I can never remember whether acid soil is pink, or alkaline. My Snapshot is http://goo.gl/LUiDP
ReplyDeleteI am not so keen on the bright blue hydrangeas, I think because they were very fashionable where I grew up. Everyone had them in there front gardens, and no other flowers. So stick to your guns, and don't let your husband do anything to yours, which is very beautiful as it is.
ReplyDeleteI love hydrangeas. I think it's so cool that they can change color, but I like your idea that you stick with the color that grew for you. Have a great weekend, Melinda!
ReplyDeletehydrangeas are one of my favorites. Yours are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty - I love these. Ours are in bloom as well.
ReplyDeleteI love hydrangeas!! I love the blue ones. I believe blue is acidic soil. We have a lot of blue back East, but where I grew up in CA the hydrangeas were most often pink!
ReplyDeleteI just saw a bush yesterday that was white hydrangeas in the process of turning blue - interesting! :)

Such a beautiful color. I wouldn't want to change it either!
ReplyDeleteThere is a large white colonial house in Chatham, Ma ... on Cape Cod that has two hedges of these blue hydrangeas lining the front walkway ... it is my dream house because of their summertime beauty! Yours are just as lovely!
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful. I didn't know you can put something in the soil to change the color. But of course, that's what growers do. You can see I'm not a green thumb myself, but love to do virtual garden tours.
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous. I don't know where you live, but here in NE Wyoming only a few varieties of hydrangeas are compatible with our environment. My sister grows wonderful blue ones in western South Dakota.
ReplyDeleteOK, I just looked at your Good Reads page and see that you are in OR. So you probably have the similar planting zone as we do. Your hydrangeas are lovely.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty colour - my parents used to grow them - similar colour too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely purple color. I do prefer the blue, so I add coffee grounds to the soil around my hydrangea. Look for $10 Amazon gift card giveaway link on my blog. The drawing is tomorrow if anyone else wants to be in the drawing. Here's My Saturday Snapshot
ReplyDeleteLovely! My parents have hydrangeas, but they don't get enough sun and rarely bloom. Yours are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I would leave them just the way they are too. Whatever you're doing is working great! :)
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I have three hydrangea bushes in my yard, but they are babies so no flowers yet.
