We recently took our kids to the Washington County Fair. I actually grew up going to another county fair (also in Oregon), which was always incredibly anticlimatic. It was seriously cows, jams, and 1 ride. The Washington County Fair, on the other had, is just a (slightly) smaller and (much) cheaper of the Oregon State Fair. It is also 5 minutes from our house, instead of the hour it takes to get to the state fairgrounds. This year's fair was slightly more low-key than usual because the Air Show, which was
across the street was happening the same weekend and many of the livestock classes were shown a few weeks earlier due to the noise that comes with the air show. Still, it was a fabulous way to spend the day!

My husband's company sponsored a kids' "engineering" tent and my kids had a blast in there! |
I love fairs! Haven't been to one in years....thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's the fair season round us too. How amazing to have an Air Show just across the street - I bet that was soooo noisy!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I covered a few of these agricultural and horticultural shows in my time as a reporter... trekking around looking at animals, and fruit and veg, and flowers, and baking, and crafts... We had to try and get pix of local winners with their trophies or exhibits... and get lists of the winners from the organisers. who were always too busy to talk to the press... I've been snapping butterflies http://goo.gl/XT7zg4
ReplyDeleteLove the one man band :-)
ReplyDeleteYour county fair looks very similar to our small country shows - full of characters!
I'm not a fair fan, but the kids did like them when they were little. Great photos. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteA one-man band! I don't think I've ever seen one of those.

ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever actually seen a One-Man-Band...makes me think of Mary Poppins!
ReplyDeleteI love fairs! How much fun your kids must have had!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a fair in a few years but my kids and grandkids have been going to a few. They used to be a bit boring but they've really improved.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a good time and I love your photos! Such a fun summer treat! :)
Wanted to link, but couldn't get it to work. Sorry. Check my blog to see the post and what I was going to link.
ReplyDeleteOh that brings back memory flashes! We used to take our children to the South Florida Fair which is actually quite big. A few years back we did go to the Peanut Festival with daughter and grand kids. Somehow that slips by us but maybe we will do it again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting as I love to see the snippets that bloggers share.
I have such fond memories of going to the California State Fair with my family growing up. We hope to take Mouse to her first county fair this fall. The L.A. County Fair doesn't have anything on the state fair, but I'm sure she'll have a great time just the same. Love the pics! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
