Saturday Snapshot - November 2

To participate in Saturday Snapshot: post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky below. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

One thing I really like about Halloween (and there isn't that much, as you can tell from my latest article for the Hillsboro Argus) is carved pumpkins.  However, I really don't like to actually carve them.  Luckily for me, I can outsource that task--my brother-in-law is a true artist in the pumpkin carving world.  As Michelangelo worked in marble, Wayne works in squash.

This first pumpkin is one that he made for his parents and he was able to devote a large chunk of time to it:

These are the two he made for us.  It probably took him about 2 hours to make both of them.  The first one appealed to my kids and the second, he said, was the face that was always inside the pumpkin!

All our trick or treaters (it was a slow year this year, only 163!) all love the pumpkins!

  1. Awesome pumpkin artistry....thanks for sharing.

  2. I love the last pumpkin in particular!
But your story makes me sooooo glad that Halloween is not a tradition that we do in Australia.
Although with the prevalence of The Simpsons and other US based TV shows our kids are growing used to the idea. We also now have areas in Sydney where there is a high US & Canadian ex-pat population - these areas are beginning to trick 'n' treat more and more....but all I see is a greedy quest for chocolate and lollies :-(

  3. Those pumpkins have character! I I loved looking at those!

  4. Your brother-in-law is definitely talented in pumpkin/squash design. I enjoyed your article too! Thanks, as always, for sharing and hosting.

  5. WOW!!! What amazing pumpkin carving! Very cool - I'll have to show my son your photos when he gets home.

We love Halloween and had a fun week - I posted a few pics.

    Enjoy the weekend!

    Book By Book

Book by Book is now on Facebook!

  6. Wow, that really does take pumpkin artistry to a new level! Very impressive when you can't tell it's a pumpkin anymore...

  7. What interesting art work! Very seasonal indeed.

  8. The first one is amazing! Best pumpkin I've ever seen! Second is the last one! My grandson was Scooby this year, so he'd love that pumpkin!

  9. They are amazing, especially to do them in just 2 hours. Really scary. We are clearly lightweights over here when it comes to Halloween.

  10. Wow! The face is amazing... he's a pumpkin sculptor! Here’s my Saturday snapshot post.
