May 2014 Monthly Wrap Up

Wowzas!  I read a lot this month...I was actually kind of surprised when I added up my totals but, well, go me!  I think I was helped by our vacation, during which time I had many chances to read. In fact, I pretty much spent all of Mother's Day reading.  Best. Mothers. Day. EVER!

Anyway, in May I read:
The Pearl that Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hashimi
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
These Gentle Wounds by Helene Dunbar
One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern
Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder (no review)
Evergreen by Rebecca Rasmussen (review to be posted 7/16)
The Forgotten Seamstress by Liz Trenow
Brava, Valentine by Adriana Trigiani
Midsummer by Carole Giangrande (review to be posted 6/5)
Ramona and Her Father by Beverly Cleary (no review)
Cutting Teeth by Julia Fierro
Landing Gear by Kate Pullinger
Something Other Than God by Jennifer Fulwiler
Ramona and Her Mother by Beverly Cleary (no review)
The French House by Don Wallace (review to be posted 6/2)
The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine (review to be posted 6/4)
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent (review to be posted 6/6)

Right now, I'm reading:
The Hatmaker's Heart by Carla Stewart (review scheduled for 6/13)
On the Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder (reading with my daughter; no review)
Benny and Shrimp by Katarina Mazetti (book club selection; review scheduled for 6/18)
12 Huge Mistakes Parents Can Avoid: Leading Your Kids to Succeed in Life by Tim Elmore (review scheduled for 7/2)

In other news:

  • I won't go too much into Burial Rites here, but I did want to get something off my chest.  The rumor is that Jennifer Lawrence will be playing Agnes (the lead) in the movie version of this book.  Now, I love me some JLaw as much as the next person, but I think she would be horribly miscast in this role!  Ugh!  If, by chance, the powers that be come across my lowly blog...please, please, please consider Maggie Gyllenhall instead!
  • The good news is that now that I'm obsessing about JLaw being miscast in Burial Rites, I am no longer obsessing about Reese Witherspoon not being a good fit for Cheryl Strayed in Wild.  One of my very good friends is, well, wild for Wild and we have been discussing this quite a bit and I can now put aside my apprehension about the movie.
  • The Blogger Summer Reading Challenge kicked off May 1st and it runs until September 1st and I set a goal of 35 books.  Now, I'm not counting books that I started in April and finished in May, but my total so far is 14 books, which is way ahead of schedule.  Perhaps I should revise my goal?
