I don't normally do Music Reviews--in fact, this is only the 2nd one I've done on this blog.  However, when the opportunity came to review a new Laurie Berkner Band CD, I knew that my kids would never forgive me if I passed it up.

Our family was introduced to the Laurie Berkner Band when my daughter was quite young.  Someone--I believe it was my mother--had given us a few of her CD's and we've been listening ever since.  Not only do we frequently play Laurie Berkner Band CD's at home, but I know that they are frequently played in the preschool my daughter attended and my son now attends.

So, what is it that we love about the Laurie Berkner Band so much?  My kids would say it is because "it's fun!"  While there are several reasons why I like their music, here are the three main reasons.  First, the music is not over-orchestrated.  We have a number of CD's by musical acts for kids and they are entertaining and fun, but they you can barely hear the singers over the instruments.  There isn't anything "wrong" with that, but I like it when I can actually hear the singers.

The second reason is that the songs are easy for kids to sing along to and to sing on their own.  Part of this is because they can hear the singers over the instruments.  But it is also a matter of a fact that the lyrics are easy for kids understand, they are in songs paced well for kids, and the tunes are catchy.  Not only do my kids (and I!) sing along with the CD, but we frequently find ourselves singing the songs when the CD is not playing!

Finally, these songs encourage the kids to get up and move!  Just by nature, the songs are very conducive to dancing.  However, a number of songs actively instruct kids to move around--either by specific movements or to pretend to be something like a rocket or such.  If you need your kids to burn off some energy, this will definitely help!

If you aren't familiar with the Laurie Berkner Band, this is an excellent starter CD.  It has 22 tracks, at least some of which are hits from previous albums (since we don't have all the LBB CD's, I can't tell if all the songs come from previous CD's or if there are some original songs included).  I think it provides a nice survey of the band's complete library.

The only complaint we have--and, by "we," I mean my son--is that the song "Rocketship Run" is not included.  However, since we have that on another CD and I know it is played frequently in his preschool class, I think he can live with that! Otherwise, both of my kids love all the tracks on this CD--and I can say that it is a CD that I will happily listen to with them!

I was given a copy of this CD in return for an honest review.  I received no other compensation for this post.
