January Monthly Wrap-Up / It's Monday...What Are You Reading? (2/2)

Well, I'm late in posting this...for 2 reasons.  The first is that I've been trying to catch up with everything I didn't do while I was down with the flu and reading has (temporarily) slipped down on my priority list.

Secondly, I am a good wife and, even though I said I wasn't going to do it, I watched the Super Bowl last night.  I behaved myself and made snarky comments only about the commercials.  I think if you didn't have strong feelings about either team (or if you were a Patriots fan) it was a great game to watch.  My husband, however, is still recovering.

Anyway, back to the books.  I'm combining my January wrap-up and my Monday post here.

This month, I read or listened to:
Benjamin Franklin's Bastard by Sally Cabot (finished 1/7, review date 1/29)
Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson [Audiobook] (finished 1/7, no review)
Girl Before a Mirror by Liza Palmer (finished 1/8, review date 1/27)
Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan [Audiobook] (finished 1/10, review date 2/4)
Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm by Philip Pullman (finished 1/10, no review)
Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography by Laura Ingalls Wilder (finished 1/13, review date 2/6)
Insurgent by Veronica Roth (finished 1/13, review date 2/12)
A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O'Connor (finished 1/16, no review)
A Memory of Violets by Hazel Gaynor (finished 1/19, review date 2/9)
The Midwife of Hope River by Patricia Harman (finished 1/22, review date 2/17)
The Lovers Set Down Their Spoons by Heather Slomski (finished 1/24, review date 2/19)

Okay, before I get into what I'm reading now, I wanted to give a little update of my, well, feelings.  Don't worry, I'm not going to get all emotional here and I'm not going to use you all as therapists.

Basically, here's the deal. The book polygamy is killing me.  I feel like I just have too many balls in the air.  I thought I would try finish up what I have going and then turn over a new leaf but I realized I just have to do it now.

To be fair, I'm not going to be a true monogamist--my goal is to have only 3 or 4 books going, which I realize sounds very polygamous, but hear me out.  These would be my books:
1 - My main book
2 - An audiobook
3 - A book that I'm reading to my daughter (I'll probably start reading chapter books to my son in a year or so. He's just not ready right now).
4 - Sometimes I may also have a short story or essay collection going as well.

I didn't finish anything last week, but here is how thing are currently shaking out.

Right now, I'm reading:
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
My main book--also my next book club book.  I have about 75 more pages to go, so I'm hoping to have it done within the next day or two, but that depends if I finally get my laundry done and my house cleaned up.  It's a fun book, but it is dense so I can't really just sit and read it for a couple of hours.  I do think it will be a good book club discussion, though.

Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren
To be fair, I'm also reading a Junie B. Jones book to my daughter.  She loves these books and gets one out of the school library every week.  I, however, can't stand these books and would much rather be reading Pippi, but whatever.

Right now, I'm listening to:
1776 by David McCullough
Yep, still working on it.  Actually, I'm not--I'm catching up on podcasts, but I'll be back to this one soon!

I have Iscariot  and Murder at the Brightwell up next once I finish The Elegance of the Hedgehog and then I should have an, um, lighter load going on.

I'm going to leave you with this little goodie.  I've been reading lists of the supposed "best" commercials from last night AND THIS ONE IS NOT ON IT!  People, this should be #1 on every list...and there isn't a dead kid in sight... enjoy
