First Book of the Year and #FitReaders Check In - January 1

Happy 2016 everyone!   I hope that 2015 was kind to you and pray that 2016 will be even better.

As usual, I took a bit of a blogging break at the end of the year and I'm a eager to get back into it.  I'm combining two things in today's post--something I don't normally do, but that is how it worked out.



First of all, here is my First Book of the Year!  This is hosted by Sheila over at Book Journey...all you do is post a selfie of yourself with the first book you're reading this year...



This year, I opted to go back to one of my favorite's, Sarah Vowell, and her new book, Lafayette in the Somewhat United States.  I've read most (not all) of her earlier books and enjoyed them all, so I'm really looking forward to this one.

Okay, second item on the agenda....#FitReaders!



This has been around for at least a couple of years, but I've decided to participate this year.  In the past, I've tried to keep a healthy living blog as well as this one, but it never worked (for a variety of reasons).  So, each Friday, I'm going to do a quick update post about how successful I was to get up and move around (instead of sitting on my butt in my reading chair all day!).

As today is the 1st, instead of doing a "check in," I'm going to just do my goals for...well, for January.  I could try and do 2016 goals but, at this point in time, I'm afraid that would just be setting myself up for failure.  Anyhoo....here are my goals for January.

  1. 63,000 steps a week (that's based on 10K for 5 days and 6500 the other 2)
  2. At least 2 dedicated workouts a week
  3. Complete the #FitReaders Virtual 5K at some point this month
So, there you go!

Finally, I'm not going to mention a weight number again until the first post of 2017--and, no, I'm not going to give you my weight--but I will say that, in 2015, I lost 12 pounds.  We'll see how that compares to 2016 in about 52 weeks!
