#FitReaders Check In - January 8

Have I told you all that I'm walking the entire Pacific Crest Trail?

Well, sort of.

My friend Ryan is that person who totally figured out how to live his dreams.  When I met him, he was a corporate drone (and the company where my husband, who I wouldn't meet for several years) works.  Then, when he was laid off, he decided that life was not for him and now spends his life backpacking and letterboxing and running a couple sites devoted to both of those.

One of those sites is Walking4fun.  It's quite a fun little thing--you choose a trail (the shortest, the Crater Lake Trail, is 36 miles.  The longest, the Pacific Crest Trail, is 2689.5 miles) and then, each day, you plug in your mileage from your pedometer or fitbit or whatnot and you get pictures of what you would see on the trail if you had done your walking there.  You can also enter in a bunch of days at once so it's not like you have to log in every day.

Yes, Ryan has walked ALL of the trails, including the PCT and the Appalachian Trail--TWICE.

Anyway, I decided to give it a try and OF COURSE I chose the longest frickin' trail there was--the PCT.   I stated in April and I am proud to say that now, about 8 months later, I'm a whopping 38% done (that means I'm almost to the part of the trail parallel to Sacramento.  Let's just say I'm not exactly Cheryl Strayed....

I was telling some friends about it and they were intrigued, so I thought I would share it here as well. If you want a fun little carrot to help get your steps in, give it a try.

January Goals:
1. 63,000 Steps/Week
Friday 1/1 - 7493 steps (3.37 miles)
Saturday 1/2 - 10,681 steps (4.8 miles)
Sunday 1/3 - 8921 steps (4.01 miles)
Monday 1/4 - 13,374 steps (6.01 miles)
Tuesday 1/5 - 12,313 step (5.53 miles)
Wednesday 1/6 - 10,919 (4.91 miles)
Thursday 1/7 - 11,117 steps (4.99 miles)
TOTAL: 74,818 steps (33.62 miles)

So, you know, pretty darn good!

2. At least 2 dedicated workouts
Unfortunately, I only got one dedicated workout this week (quality time on the elliptical on Saturday).  This week was just crazy, but I'm hoping to get back to my regular schedule next week.  Honestly, though, I don't feel that guilty about it because I did so well on my steps.

3. Complete the #FitReaders Virtual 5K at some point this month
Not yet...I mean, technically I've done it almost every day.  But I'm hoping to do a dedicated 3.1+ mile walk.  The weather here this week was horrendous and I'm a wimp...so it hasn't happened yet!
