It's Monday, What Are You Reading? / #FitReaders Check In - June 27, 2016

Whooo-eee! It is hot here!  Oregon, at least until the last few years, didn't have especially hot summers.  That, however, has changed.  We were at 92 today, which is unusual for June.  I can't complain, beats the rain!

So, a little housekeeping first.  So far this year, I've done well with a 2 review a week schedule.  However, due to my April and May reading slump, I'm running out of scheduled reviews and much of what I have on my immediate TBR are books to be reviewed for specific dates.  So, the rate of reviews is going to slow a bit.  I don't want to push myself, and not enjoy what I'm reading, just to get reviews out there.  Oh, and lesson learned--next year, I am going to NOT post reviews in May (as well as in December).

Okay, onto the weekly check in....

Folks, I rocked it this week!  Part of my success is that I decided to do a 30 in 30 challenge.  I just have to walk (or doesn't need to be a "workout" walk) 30 minutes outside for 30 days in a row.  I started it last Monday and I've been successful so far.

1 - 70,000 steps a week
Sunday, 6/19 - 10,862 steps (5.02 miles)
Monday, 6/20 - 13,829 steps (6.25 miles)
Tuesday, 6/21 - 14,416 steps (6.52 miles)
Wednesday, 6/22 - 11,391 steps (5.12 miles)
Thursday, 6/23 - 12,032 steps (5.41 miles)
Friday, 6/24 - 14,154 steps (7.04 miles)
Saturday, 6/25 - 12,504 steps (6.18 miles)
Total: 89, 188 steps!!!! (41,54 miles)

2 - 2 strength training workouts each week
I got THREE in!

3 - 96 ounces of water a day
I accomplished this on 5 days, and the other 2 days were both over 64 ounces

Now, next week I'm volunteering at our church's VBS each morning, so I'm not sure how well I'll do.  I doubt I'll be able to get in to the gym for early morning workouts, so I'll have to see if I can figure something else out.

Right now, I'm reading:
The Valley by Helen Bryan
So, the description of this book totally sold me.  Settlers in Colonial Virginia? That is totally my jam.  However, I'm not far into this yet and I can already tell that it needed more editing.  There is far too much exposition and I just want the story to start!  I'm sticking with it because I really hope that once we finally get to the story things will work out (and I agreed to review it), but I'm not overly optimistic at the moment.

Dietland by Sarai Walker
This book is reminding me quite a bit of Where'd You Go, Bernadette?.  So, if you liked that book, you would probably enjoy this one.  Unfortunately, I did not particularly care for that book and I'm a little worried about how this one is going to go.  It is my next book club book, so I can't NOT read it, but I'm hoping that it is a better fit for me than Where'd You Go, Bernadette?.

Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow
Chugging along....

Right now, I'm listening to:
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (narrated by Thandie Newton)
Again, still chugging along, but not as quickly as I'd like. I need to catch up on some podcasts before I can plunge deeply into this one.

Last week, I finished:
In Twenty Years by Allison Scotch Winn (finished 6/22, review 6/30)
I have to get on the stick and write my review of this one.  But, here's a little non-spoiler...I will be doing a giveaway with this one--and TWO people will win!

The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams (finished 6/24, review 7/5)
This was a quick read, but incredibly powerful.  It was definitely one that will stick with you!
