It's Monday, What Are You Reading? - November 28, 2016

Okay, who is still stuffed from Thanksgiving?  Just me?  Yikes!

We did have a nice, quiet-ish holiday, so that was nice.  And the food was great, thank you very much (yes, I made it!)  Now, the kids are getting ready to head back to school tomorrow and life returns to normal--or at least as normal as life can be in December.

I am starting, or at least re-starting, something this month.  Waaaaay back, in my single days, I participated in a program here called SMART, which stands for Start Making A Reader Today.  Through this program, volunteers go into the public schools to read with children (usually grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade) who need a little extra help.  I kept telling myself I would go back to it when both of my kids were in school.  Well, that happened this fall and I'm just now getting around to it.  I will admit that I was motivated a bit this time because I'm looking for some good to do in my community in the aftermath of the election.  Anyway, I was placed at the elementary school in our neighborhood, so I can actually walk over.  I start this Thursday and I'm really looking forward to it!

Another thing that happened this week actually came from last week's IMWAYR post!  Someone--and I apologize, but I can't remember who--posted about Serial.  It's an app where you can get eBooks that are in the public domain delivered to your phone or whatnot each day in bite-sized portions.  I immediately downloaded it and selected This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Each day, I get about 10 minutes worth of reading and it is the perfect chunk.  In retrospect, I wish I had chosen a different book to start with, though.  This Side of Paradise is Fitzgerald's unfinished novel and, well, it's rough.  But, at this point, I'm far enough in that I want to finish it and, really, 10 minutes a day is not bad.

If you are the blogger who posted about this last week, please let me know and I'll give you some link love here for it!
